Whilst most gold mouldings are factory produced for cost effectiveness we can, if required, hand leaf one-off items or on a contractual basis.

AL BARAKAH PALACE JORDON

In the latter part of 2001 Custom Frames were commissioned to gild ceiling panels destined for the Royal Al Barakah Palace Amman, Jordan ( Home of King Abdulla II ).

Working with artists from Artistic Licence the 200 panels were decorated in Nottingham. Firstly the panels were sprayed with a base colour, artists then painstakingly painted in the embossed sections. Panels varied in size from small fillets approximately 300mm to Arabesque and star shapes of about 2 meters.

Once the artists work was completed our team began to lay sheets of leaf (Silver and Gold) around all edges of the panels and specified sections of embossing. We used in excess of 8,000 sheets to complete this in a total of 6 weeks.

In Spring of 2002 we were asked to fly to Amman and work in the Palace with artists to repair and make good any damage caused to the panels either in transit or while the ceiling was being constructed. We were also asked to supervise a local work team who were completing the frieze.

These images show ceiling in place with lighting still to be installed.   Sadly we didn’t get to see the final results.

ST. PETERS CHURCH NOTTINGHAM

In November 2003 Custom Frames were commissioned by  Fine Artist Tiffany Groves to stretch and float frame three large canvas works  the largest being 4mtrs by 1.8mtrs and two portrait works at 2.8 by 1mtr. Frames were toned in colours to reflect vibrant blues used in the artwork by Tiffany.

In addition to this, The Reverend Cannon Deuchar requested Custom Frames to construct a partition on the east wall behind the alter to conceal a mosaic and a stone carving that had been covered by a curtain for approximately fifty years.

Although this would be quite unusual work for us, our staff has a wide range of skills and were pleased to undertake this sensitive work and to carry this out in a conservation manner.  Original stone architraves were copied by our team to match the existing walls and carried through onto the new section.   Should the wall need to be taken down at any future time fixings were kept to the absolute minimum retaining the original condition of the mosaic and carving.

THE PRIDE OF ALOHA

In early 2004 we were commissioned to make a number of frames through Artistic Licence (Nottingham) for a cruise liner "The Pride of Aloha" based in Hawaii.

The frames ranged from four metres to six metres long.

For safety reasons we decided to assemble the frames on site at the shippers to avoid any loosening or additional stress on the joints. The images were then fixed into the now completed frames and securely fixed by the means of specially produced brackets and screws.

Once we had given them basic packaging the frames were hoisted by overhead cranes and loaded into the enormous wooden crates ready for the journey to the U.S.

BBC GARDENERS WORLD LIVE SHOW GARDEN

In June 2005 Custom Frames were asked by BALI ( British Association of Landscape Industries) to participate as a sponsor of their show garden for the BBC Gardeners World Live Show at the N.E.C Birmingham. Working with garden designers Alison and Graham Evens of Gardens Co, we were asked to frame a large acrylic mirror as a centre piece of the garden.

The mirror supplied by our good friends and trading partners at Plastics Plus Ltd first had to be bonded down onto 20mm exterior ply and then ‘float’ framed in one of the new Nielsen’s aluminium profiles which are superb for this purpose and also canvases

Nielsen’s profile 28 comes in soft finish aluminium or brushed aluminium and black.

To view other Nielsen’s profiles and the entire range click onto their logo on our home page.

With the acrylic mirror in place, this reflected a harmonious arrangement of familiar garden elements, lawn, paving & aggregates, along with brushed steel arcs and Buxus planting to introduce the BALI logo.

The show was attended by HRH The Prince of Wales and HRH The Duchess of Cornwall. The garden was officially opened by T.V gardener Andy Sturgeon and was also featured on Gardeners World on the 17th June 05 by Monty Don and Joe Swift.

The garden won a Bronze in it’s class, the first that BALI has won.
